How to be more positive

5 tips to train yourself to be more positive.

Spring is the season of new beginnings and is the perfect time to develop your ability to approach every situation with a positive frame of mind.

  1. Make the choice
    Being positive isn’t an innate characteristic; remember that you can’t always control each situation, but you can decide how you will react to them.
  2. Realistic optimism
    Cultivate your ability to realistically view challenging situations and then take positive action. Remember that being positive doesn’t always mean smiling at the whole world; sometimes it means facing a difficult situation head-on and allowing yourself to grow from the experience.
  3. Positive reinforcement
    It’s easiest to build habits when you reward your good behaviour. When you’ve done something well, acknowledge it and congratulate yourself. Tell yourself you’re awesome!
  4. Become friends with yourself
    If you find you tend to speak negatively to yourself, start evaluating whether you would speak this way to a friend. If it’s something you’d never say to someone else, why say it to yourself?
  5. Happiness is catching
    Surround yourself with positive people. Focusing on people and things that are good for you will make living a positive life an easier choice.
