A historical heist blockbuster, this debut novel from Alex Hay is cheeky caper of a novel. When Mrs King, the loyal housekeeper to the grandest home in Mayfair, is suddenly dismissed after years of service, she comes up with an audacious plan to enact her revenge, bringing together a brilliant cast of women to help her. Fun and fast-paced, The Housekeepers is packed from cover to cover with strong, determined, and memorable female characters who leap off the page, and the clever prose kept me hooked until the last moment. For fans of Downton Abbey and Ocean’s 8, though perhaps an unusual pairing, I loved every minute of this novel.
