In this brilliant debut novel, Amy Lovat explores what it means to be not a teenager anymore but not quite a real adult yet, either – and all the myriad experiences, wonderful and otherwise, that comes from being in this liminal space. Amy’s prose captures the space and place of Newcastle perfectly, and brings El, the novel’s protagonist, to life so thoroughly that it feels like you’re talking to her on the phone. Readers will laugh, cry, and, yes, even cringe a little, as they follow El’s journey to work out who she is and where she belongs. A truly fantastic story.
