Turn a square of paper into a delicate rose. Move with care, breathe steadily, and watch it take shape.
1 Start with a square piece of paper, pattern side up. Fold the paper in half diagonally. Crease well and unfold. Repeat the fold in the opposite diagonal direction, crease well, and unfold.
2 Turn the paper over so the blank side is facing up. Fold the paper in half. Crease well and unfold. Repeat the fold in the opposite direction.
3 Bring the top three corners of the paper down to meet the bottom corner, folding along the existing creases. Flatten the model.
4 Fold the top triangular flaps into the centre crease. Crease well and unfold.
5 Fold the top corner of the model downwards along the indicated line. Crease well and unfold.
6 Open the uppermost flap of the model, lifting it upwards. Simultaneously, press the sides of the model inwards and flatten it down. Crease well.
Turn the model over and repeat Steps 4–6 on the other side.
7 Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
8 Holding the bottom corner, take the top flap and fold it to the right by bringing one crease line to meet the next (following the red and purple crease guides). Crease well, then unfold. Repeat on the left side.
9 Bring the bottom point upwards while pinching the left and right corners in together. The bottom point should now stick out perpendicular to the main body of the model.
10 Repeat Steps 8 and 9 on the remaining three sides. You should now see the shape of a blooming flower.
11 Press gently on the four outer points so they sit flat; the flaps in the middle will naturally curve into a soft spiral.
12 Flip the rose upside down. Fold each corner inward toward the centre point. Turn it back over.
13 With a gentle touch, pinch the centre and rotate it counterclockwise. This twist will create the heart of the rose.
14 To finish, fold each petal corner under to round the shape.
