Slow down by crafting an origami tortoise

Known to live as long and even longer than most people, some over 150 years, the tortoise is a worldwide symbol for longevity.

In the rush of everyday life, it is easy to forget to slow your pace and savour the moment. Let the world around you slow down and create your own origami tortoise. Simply cut out the supplied sheet of patterned craft paper from your issue of Mindful Puzzles and follow the instructions.

1 Begin with your desired pattern face down. Valley fold the paper in half, corner to corner, both ways, and unfold.

2 Fold all four corners to the centre.

3 Once your paper looks like this, turn over and rotate 45 degrees.

4 Fold the top and bottom corners into the centre.

5 Fold in the edges, letting the corners of the paper come from underneath.

6 Fold over the right corner, then fold the left.

7 Fold the free edges of the top layer triangle flap to match the folded edges, top and bottom, while folding the square corner to the left. Then fold the free edges of the square corner to meet in the middle and narrow the point. Repeat with other flap to the right.

8 Fold out the top layers of the right point, then fold in all four white corners to centre.

9 Fold the centre corners out to make legs, then turn over.

10 Mountain fold in half and reverse fold the tail to complete your tortoise.

When you’re done take a cute snap and tag us in your photos. We’d love to see all of your beautiful creations!
