How to make a paper Peacock

People have long been fascinated with the iridescent and vibrant feathers of the marvellous Peacock bird

Peacocks are associated with integrity, love and kind-heartedness, and have been symbols of positivity for centuries. Inspire your own sense of compassion by creating this origami peacock. Cut out the supplied sheet of patterned craft paper in Issue 32 of <e,>Mindful Puzzles, or use your own square piece of origami paper, and follow the simple instructions below.

1 Begin with your desired body colour/pattern side down. Valley fold in half, edge to edge, both ways and unfold. Then mountain fold in half, corner to corner, both ways and unfold.

2 Bring points C and D together at point B, using the existing creases to help collapse the piece for point A to also meet pint B.

3 Fold the bottom open edges to meet the crease, then unfold.

4 Mountain fold top corner (marked X) behind. Move the bottom corner of the top layer all the way up while folding in the sides. Step 5 is the correct shape.

5 Fold out the bottom corners.

6 Fan fold the wings, then mountain and valley fold the neck and beak. Step 7 is the correct shape.

7 Mountain fold in half, then rotate the paper.

8 Mountain and valley fold the tail corner, pull up the head and open out the wings to complete your peacock.

When you’re done take a cute snap and tag us in your photos. We’d love to see all of your beautiful creations!
